I don't know much about samba. but in my experience samba have a permission like in windows or normal linux system. file permission that can set to user who login to system (linux) through samba for read/write and execute.
you need to flash a phone to edit samba login permission. it should be in/etc/samba/smb.conf (may be I forgot it).
but about samba in phone sometime i can save a modified file. sometime I can't.
