Changing the color depth of the A1200 screen

Is there a way to change the screen depth of the A1200 from 18bpp to 16bpp?
I compiled the fbset utility to do it for me but the phone's screen freezes when I try to change. Is there another way?

No, you cant do that.

16bpp and 18bpp lcds are connected to the processor on a different way.
Take a look at the pxa developers manual, or contact pmarques, he is working on 18bpp lcd support for OpenEZX.
