Thread: EZX and OPIE simultaneously

Interesting... Thanks for the benchmarks. I've been wondering if there were ways to improve performance of OPIE. As it is now, its bloody slow to start most applications.

Meanwhile, could you post binaries/build instructions for squashfs so more of us could test it? I was also wondering if perhaps the slowness is due to the loopback device. Or perhaps prelinking will help with some of the speed problems.

I've already posted posted squashfs binary module in a780 section of this forum - here. Building it was quite simple - I've downloaded motorola kernel sources from sourceforge, patched tree with squashfs-2.2-for-2.4.20 (I had to do some patching manually) and compiled kernel with ELDK as described in wiki.

Opie always takes a long time to start after the phone's been rebooted. once its started, you can use the phone lock switch to first lock the phone, then unlock it and you are back to the native EZX apps. When you re-click on opie.lin opie should come back in a lot less time, about 10 seconds.

Please explain to me step by step after the screen become yellow. What i should do etc....

    have an odd error

when running oe beta cramfs under abp firm
i get a yellow screen for about a cup of coffee
then i get the two configuration screens
    1. sets docs dir
    2. sets time zones
then the screen flashes back to ezx ... except
that ezx and opie both paint
since ezx paints less often it gets less screen
as for pointer control the pointer goes to ezx
which means that if you touch the screen
it refreshes ezx and paints this over opie
until opie deciedes to paint something again

    werry odd i think
edit: run opieoe.lin 2nd time to fix
edit: ok kick me i clicked the switch to ezx icon to cause "error"
anyone know where to find a System 5 manual for my HP 9000 ...

After a few minutes of the yellow screen Opie should start, and if it is the first time Opie will guid your through the initial setup process and it will be self explanitory.

If after 5 or 10 minutes you are still seeing the yellow screen then something might be messed up and you should double check the installation; this is most easily done by telnetting to the phone (after starting opie and waiting 5-10 minutes) and checking that the necessary processes have been started (e.g. swap has been started, qpe started, etc)
to see where the problem might be. (if you are unfamiliar with telnetting and/or checking processes then the safest thing might be to uninstall opie and try for a fresh install making sure to follow the steps precisely)

openzaurus: Special attention has been brought to fix problems with non latin1 charactersets in Opie applications.

that's to say application unicode aware.

I finally find out advancedfm can not support chinese file name is because that the modified qt can't support chinese file name.maybe it can't recognize the locale of chinese version A780 phone. The chinese version A780 support iso10646 code. thanks.
