You have a point. The SIM should be a valid one. But consider this...

Thief sells the phone to someone who is a phone retailer. There are many people in India who can not afford brand new phones hence go for used ones. Unfortunately, in India, we do not have any mechanism till date to identify if the phone is stolen one or genuine.

The buyer then inserts his "VALID" SIM card and whoopsss... I get a message with his number, cell id, cell site id and the current network the phone is operating on. I told you earlier that I was able to track N95, this was not from the thief, but from a person who bought it. With the info from the buyer, Police were able to track the retailer and the thief and they both are now enjoying their time in jail.

This scenario brought me to a conclusion that the anti-theft software works, really works.

BTW, I have already enabled Voice Print and also the SIM PIN. But that does not stop from loosing your phone. With the anti-theft device, you atleast have a chance!
Ok, I wasn't thinking outside of the box on this one. If the software is running on the phone and can identify that the newly inserted SIM card is not yours and in turn initiate a call or text message out with info pulled from the new card, then that would be quite effective. There are some implications that are still out there, but if it helped get the phone back or put someone in jail, it would be quite worth it!

just curious. There's one field in A1200 for entering your number. You can view it from Call Tab >> Menu >> Setup >> My Number.

What does "My Number" do? I tried entering my phone number, it says "Invalid Index"

Can someone guide on this? I think this is where you enter your SIM information (not sure about what) and the phone will trace if un-authorised SIM (other than the two's for which info is provided) is inserted and can reject calls. This I think is also protected by the locking code.

Try it and please let us know. Thanks...

I 've already developed some kind of anti-theft software. It's just alpha, but tested on my E6. Here the link.
    Steps to install:
    1. Unpack motoguard.zip into ".system/QTDownLoad/motoguard" on your TF
    2. Edit motoguard.cfg, setting FrendlyPhoneNo and Text parameters.
    3. Add the following code to your startup script (e.g. to startup1.txt on your TF or any else supported by your firmware):

    /mmc/mmca1/.system/QTDownLoad/motoguard/motoguard.sh > /mmc/mmca1/motoguard.log 2>&1
After that - reboot your phone. It will store currently inserted sim card identifier and will check it after any reboot. If it find a new sim card - it's to send an SMS Text to FrendlyPhoneNo.

A source codes are also available so if any want to develop this app - feel free to do so.

I have tested it, and works BUT:

It appears a "Service Permission" advice on the phone, requesting to take action: 4 possible options (Allow SMS, Allow just this time, DO NOT Allow, and another one).

So, unfortunately, the SMS is not totally invisible to the thief. He could STOP the SMS message.

Great application. I know it is in beta and development status. Thanks again for Lavelas for his excellent work.
