    Default A1680 blocked on AT&T

I got the latest Ming a1680 and tried it out on AT&T network and got a nasty surprise. The data network does not work, at all. I tried the APN settings that normally work for an unlocked GSM to no avail. Wasted hours on the phone with support, and the best AT&T could do was fix the voicemail (was on iPhone) and tell me to call Motorola.

Motorola support was a transfer hell nightmare and a half. But they did tell me something interesting: AT&T blocks unlocked phones on their network! This is the first I've heard such a thing, but thinking about how the AT&T support people worded it, they did imply it without directly saying it. I've had other unlocked Ming phones working so I wanted clarification and asked to speak with a supervisor and got hung up on.

    Anybody else hear about this?

This is really frustrating as I hate the iphone and iphone lookalikes, but Android on a clamshell is pretty sweet... except for the whole it doesn't work thing.

That's kinda of funny because my phone is unlocked and I've been using it for 1 year and 4 months with no problem on AT&T. My phone scans for any available GSM quadband network and I get all the network settings no problems. My data works to but I only use wifi. What data APN are you using maybe I might have a different number for that and can help, Also are you using a normal ATT simcard or prepaid? I'm using a Prepaid because for me it's cheaper and also there is no way of AT&T knowing what kind of phone I'm using on there network lol . Also one more thing since your phone is unlocked you should expect no support from customer service there is honestly nothing they can do 99% of them have probably never heard of your phone before( Had this happen to me). Your best option is to google or bing your problem, or maybe I can help idk. Edit I just forgot about one important thing my phone is a Windows phone first before Android. When I boot up Android it takes all my network settings from windows but even in Windows it scans for a any available GSM network and I have no problem with internet or anything else. Like I said before tell me the APN number you are using and I will boot up Android and see if it's the same or different.

As I mentioned, I've used unlocked GSM phones on AT&T before, so this was quite a shock to hear. I figured I happened to get an idiot on the phone who was talking nonsense, but couldn't shake the thought once I heard it so I was wondering if anyone else heard the same.

The voice works but not the data, but it does show an Edge/GPRS icon saying it detects the connection without being able to use it. It also shows the Edge icon for activity when running on WiFi. I also get a text on startup which tech support at neither AT&T nor Motorola (including the more helpful ones the second round of calls) could make sense of:

    From: +112611611
"10086 Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code. GPRS"

I've gone through about a half dozen variations on APN settings, and currently have the setup the AT&T support people suggested:
    APN: wap.cingular
    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
    MMS Port: 80
They said username and password was not needed.

As for never hearing of my phone, when I gave them the IMEI#, they thought it was a Blackberry.

Yeah I don't have those type of settings format I did with my E6 but not in the X1i, I also noticed my Username and password filled in maybe certain unlocked phones need this to work. I uploaded some screen shots in Windows in a few hours I will boot up Android and try to post some screen shots. That text message error is also weird, have you tried removing your sim then putting back in and booting your phone? Also do your text messages work?

I've tried removing and rebooting a few times, including having a TMobile sales guy try his SIM but he couldn't even get the voice to work on their network.

SMS works, MMS does not - I get an SMS saying there is an MMS I need to download which I can only receive while on WiFi. I've messed around with the phone for several days now, everything seems to work except for the data network. (though I don't have a local map so not certain of the GPS)

Also, I tried the code *#*#4636#*#* but when I enter the last * it vanishes without bringing up the test screen I get on other Android phones. I don't know if that is phone specific or just because of the Android version. (1.6) Are there any other test modes or USSD codes for testing or resetting the radio?

Does your MMS setting look like this(pics below). Also I will try to find some test codes or USSD codes for resetting the radio. Another thing I noticed for both internet and mms "Media Net" is present do you have any media net options in your phone?
