An actual discussion about the try to have WLAN via WLAN USB stick with the A780 can be found at
www.motoralafans.com. A780 --> "internet over wireless lan?

"
The problem is at the moment that the USB chipset is working in the client modus.
Code:
The processor can be brought into the host mode via register, but there is a transceiver and it is not known how this transceiver works (linux kernel reengineering is required).
alebm:
"Pxa processor can switch usb relatively easy, but moto put a tranceiver in front of it and we have not much information about that ic at this time. If the tranceiver handles automatically client/host mode, we may have to deactivate de usbd interface and set the pxa regs to host mode. Kernel shows how to activate the transceiver for usb/uart modes(the code is in the misc driver section hehe), but it doesn't comment on usb modes..."
"Yes the ports are independend, I think the kernel driver that came to control port3 will control port2 automatiacally, but there is another ic between bulverde and usb... I~m workin on it but my free time is very tight hehe, setting the port to serial mode is almost working"
"So am I... there are some tricks for detection that may be, if we are luck enough, can trigger the circuit to provide host mode in a780/e680, but it can be only speculation. The thing of usb doesn't charging a dead batery phone can be resolved thru that hehe. The schematics we have of a780/e680 have a few diferences, aparently the usbc(port2 differential io) is connected direct with the pcap output in e680, not in 780. If the host mode thru pcap don't work, e680 may have another try, a780 will be unluck"
The second problem is the power supply, as the USB plug of the phone does not provide power output:
Code:
=> solution: (all parts can be bought at www.pearl.de)
1x USB battery pack
1x USB adapter (mini-a-plug > B-jack)
1x USB-Y-cable (plug (data/power) <jack> plug (power) > forwards power to the jack...)
The equipment was made to provide additional power to e.g. HDD´s with high power consumption (connector 2 to be attached to 2nd USB port).
