Default GPS on my phone died??

    strange this,
i always could use my GPS and copilot software without a problem but now it seems like i can't get a fix anymore.

i suspect the latest standard update through the phone tools app somehow screwed it up.

all i get now is that little grey satellite dish icon in the left top corner of the screen with a red line striking it.

if i start copilot it stays that way and copilot never gets a satellite fix.

    very annoying.

i already wrote to Motorola customer support and their answer was to drain the battery entirely until the phone shuts down due to power loss and then fully recharge again and if that doesn't solve the problem they want me to send the unit to their RMA department...

this seems like a somewhat unlogical solution although i haven't tried it yet for i don't have the standard recharcher handy right now.. only an USB cable but that won't work when the battery is completely drained.

    so, my question,
has anyone experienced something similar and how to solve it?

the last thing i want to do is send an otherwise perfectly working phone to motorola and be without it for weeks.. i won't survive it..

i suspect it's a software problem.. not a hardware one.

    WWW008W gives me:

    R52_G_0D.74.A2R
    BP: R52_G_0D.C0.1BP
    BPFlex: SE6824AD3N1026

do you have a friend with a RAZR V3 or V3i?
the motorola with miniusb are all the same.
so you can do the battery trick.
but i don't think that this is the solution.
as you expected the last thing you have done was an update from motorola.
and the only difference between your and mine is the BPflex.
as i know the GPS-chip needs a little love from BP.
any changes on this may be a problem.
    but the bad thing is:
BP can't be flashed from users

    Default GPS needs GPRS

You have to the GPRS enabled!
Because the phone use some data from internet to focus your location maybe.
But I don´t know if it is for all A780 versions.

So I have this problem as you. Copilot started & copilot´s screen wieved the satelite picture with "satelite is not available" (or something) text.
If I finished CoPilot and turn back from this program I saw that the GPRS is off. I turned it on & tried to start the Co Pilot again. And? Everything is functional.

it seems, Your keypad in the front is broken! It don´t need GPRS!!

    The BP wouldn´t be broken.

    Sorry for my english.

Default hm... my phone is kidding me

I had the same think (could not activate the gps-receiver in the menu, 'cause the dropdown menu was invisible and so the receiver was disabled - dish was marked with a red line)

today i had the idea to write a little deamon to read data vom external bluetooth-gps-receivers and serving them like lapisrv (killed befor running the new deamon) on /tmp/lapisock ... so i began to write some code (impressed by lurkers gpsd, thanks to him and the others who decoded lapi-interface)
i testet and restarted the phone several times (my code still does really nothing) but i noticed that suddenly the dish was not marked anymore and then i looked after the dropdown menu and it was back
(i have connected the phone via usb the time i was testing)
    hm.. that is confusing...

but nevertheless to use copilot with external gps-receivers such a programm is a must and it would be great if we could create such a deamon...

    >restarted the phone several times
i think this is the key.
because the gps-chip has to be initialised from BP and this is at bootup (maybe there is a timing problem).
with this method i have reactivated a dead gps (dish marked with a red line)!

good to see that your method works
