From what I understand of your post, you can still login into your phone, except that you are told that /root does not exist. I believe that it is simply an indication that root's home directory does not exist. From anywhere in the file system, just do a cd. It should send you back to $HOME, which, in the case of root is usually /root and is missing. The fact that /root is not there should noot be a problem - it is also missing in my phone.
