Just as a warning, this is a bit of a rant. I apologise

As we all know the A780 is a great phone with a lot of options. However it does have many shortcomings, and the unfortunate part is the lack of support from Motorola. Motorola has little to no support for our phones allowing us to keep the software up to date. Is our only option to spend several hundred dollars more (after only a year or two) on a newer phone to get the options we really want (or need)?

A case in point is the Bluetooth capabilities of the phone. It uses the older Bluetooth 1.1 which is not compatable with more advanced features in new Bluetooth technology. We cannot even use our phones with the new Motorola bluetooth headsets!

My search to find a way to update the bluetooth chip on the phone has led me to many forums and sites. The palm treo crowd is in the same boat we are and are absolutely furious at the lack of support Palm gives them. Several Bluetooth insiders have said that the chip on their phone can be reflashed with the newer Bluetooth 1.2, but the phone would still require updated software. This software is not available from the manufacturer, nor is a Bluetooth update being considered.

After reading more and more of this, I decided that Motorola should know of my concern for the product that I purchased from them. It is obvious that their support is quite lacking for many of their products. Im not sure about everyone else, but I purchased my phone for around $400 and feel that there should be better support and service for that kind of money. The fact that we have sites like Motorolafans.com is comforting, yet my money went to Motorola and not this site.

Be it positive or negative, I urge you all to leave some feedback at Motorola's feedback page located here:

It will only help to improve the service and support Motorola gives us in the future.
