To both questions, the answer is 'Yes'.
Guys,
Is it true that :
- A780 doesn't have the twin 3D stereo speakers (like those we have on E680)?
- A780 only supports TransFlash and not SD and MMC?
To both questions, the answer is 'Yes'.
Hiks ... how disappointing ... it's a total turn-off.

You will be hard pressed to hear the difference between the A780 and the E680. Side by side, the A780 is actually louder than the E680 at max volume and they sound pretty much the same in terms of sound quality.
And it using transflash cards has been a known spec from the beginning. What's the problem?

- Is it really? But is it stereo or just mono output? Ok, the speaker thing is not a big problem to fuss about, then, as long as I can still hear excellent STEREO sound using the headset. Btw, does a headset actually come with the package?
- TransFlash card. Hmmm ... it's pretty expensive for me. And until now, it's only 256 MB max, right? (CMIIW) I'd prefer an up-to-1-GB SD card (or maybe even micro/miniSD).
I guess it'll be some more days for me to consider whether or not buying this phone ... Anyone can give some more turn-ons???![]()

I have both phones.Originally Posted by inijohan

E680 has better look - but lacks screen protection. It is easy to scratch it.
A780 has a better graphical interface (GUI) although very similar.
A780 has a very nice keypad so you don't get your touchscreen dirt. Also, the phone search using keypad is AMAZING, you use T9 and usually can get your contact within 3 key-presses - the T9 search works IN SUBSTRINGS i.e. inside the name not only from the beginning!!!!
Speaking of features... Bluetooth seem to be more complete (has more functions including SPP - see my leoppp.tar thread in the E680 forum).
No stereo speakers but who use them anyway? Headset quality is same as E680.
E680 is better for gaming thanks to the 8 directions joystick.
A780 has a 1.3 megapixel camera! The E680 camera just sucks IMHO.
Both phones are WAAAY FAST and this is why I like them so much (had Nokia 7710 and Sony Eric P910i before, these were awfully SLOW compared to these Motobabies).
A780 comes with "Mobile Phone Tools" applicaton which allows you to REMOTE CONTROL your phone from your Win PC. E680 lacks this, I haven't tried hooking it to see if the sw works with the E680 as well yet.
Mobile Phone Tools is the first example of a Motorola phone software that actually doesn't suck

How do you mean, the screen get scratched easilly, mine doesnt scratch at all, even if i use a toothpick as a stylus.
Yes, but does it run Linux?
Just put the phone in the pocket with your keys once. It happened to me.Originally Posted by maxx_730

yeah, if you put in your pocket with your keys, then itll scratch. I ruined my v525 doing that so now i always check whether there are no sharp objects in my pocket before i put it in.

Given how close the speakers are on the back of the E680, there is almost no stereo separation with audio. I think the whole "3d sound engine" thing is a gimmick more than anything else after having used the phone for a couple weeks.
Transflash is now up to 512MB, which is being released this month and from the searches I've done, it will only be around $65US. Remember, it's a brand new format.
The E680 is more flashy with the status light behind the M logo and the bright backlight for the D-pad, plus it has theme support. There is no indication that the A780 is going to get theme support.
The E680's D-pad has got to be THE BEST D-pad of any phone I've ever touched. It's solid and every action has a nice clicky feedback. The A780 has a small joystick that's fine, but no where near as good as the E680's.
The E680 has several vibration settings where you can set the alert to pulse, or keep up a steady vibration, and a few others options. It also has a menu to change the ring profile in the main tool bar, which is nicer than how it is implented on the A780. I'm surprised these features didn't make it into the A780.
Keep in mind there are two kinds of A780 on the market right now: one with EDGE, one without. If you don't want or care about EDGE, get the E680 and install the Picsel browser on it. You will not be disappointed.
The A780 has more bluetooth profiles than the E680. The E680 only has audio and PIM profiles.
Mobile Phone Tools doesn't work with the E680, even though MPT has an entry for the E680. You would have to use the synch software that comes with the E680 which just provides basic Outlook synching with none of the additional features of MPT.
