a780
Hey,
I've been going through ur forum for a bit now. I'm from Bangalore, India.
I'm considering buying a A760. To be honest I'm not too comfortable with linux (I suck at it). Havn't had a pda before either. Just thought i'd try it out.
All that i would probably use is the multimedia features n games. Does my buy make any sense or should i just go for the razr V3i?
And since im in India dont think GPS would do me any good either. Willi be able to benefit from the european model..or is it irrelavant.
Regards
George

The A780 is a very advanced phone. If you don't care for all of the features then I would just buy a Nokia. I haven't heard many good things about the Motorola Razor.
Thanx for the response.
I do care about its advanced features..just dont know whether i would understand all that needs to be done when it comes to linux.
Is it fairly simple to own one and do basic jobs.I'm interested in owning a PDA .. figuring out which one to buy.
Except for the WiFi, A780 got all the features a pda and a phone would need.
Yes, GPS will be helpful even in B'lore - with open source gpsdrive you can easily create your own map database.
As of WiFi, with 720kbps of bluetooth PAN bw am quite happy
Fact that A780 runs on Linux, you will see many more apps running on phone in near future that anyone would have ever imagined for a phone. And yes, you don't need to be linux aware for using phone as such. In case you are programmer, both linux and A780 are a must![]()
Thanx for your response.
Guess i shall grab a A780 for myself. Though i'm warning you'all to expect many different queries from me.![]()
PS: How do i get the GPS for Bangalore?![]()
i think A780 its the best.
linux is a miracle in a phone,man.
its rare.symbian its suckss..
I read in one of the thread in this forum, that indian models A780 do not have the GPS hardware also. I know that I can reimage with a new firmware with GPS support. But is there a specific hardware for GPS thats missing?
Is there a way to figure out if my phone has the GPS hardware?
In my phone .... i dont even get the place i am currently in ....eg "So -So area".....This feature is available in the lowest of lowes models from nokia.....
Infact even my Dad's razr doesnt have this......
I suppose this has to do with gps rite.......any solution to this ?????
No, afaik, what you are talking about is called as "cell info display" which is pushed from your service provider based on in which cell you are in. Its not directly linked to the GPS and the phone does not neet GPS support for this to work.
I hope this is a basic feature of any phone, but lke you say, I am also not aware of a way to view the cell info display in A780.
