You need a specially hacked firmware to run the third party native applications and packages. I recommend you don't mess with your phone. There are no easily-installable out-of-the-box third party apps for the Motorola phones because Motorola does not open their SDK or offer a way to install apps directly (without the need of telnetting to the phone and install/change stuff).

I agree with Vodavoda - its really frustrating to see i cannot customize the phone the way i want it to look like.
    - very sad.

I have a vague concept for a tool called hack-a-phone. It's idea is to make it simple to get your hacks and sacks of apps without the misshaps... (ok pardon that last one). It shouldn't be too hard once the environement is well understood. You can get LinLoader on the on-phone memory by the way (you don't have to put it on Transflas). Get NEO Installer, do backups, and other mods/hacks from a simple interface.

Anyway, I wont have time for a while, but if somebody else wants to jump out there, it wouldn't be a bad thing If it's made as an mkpg (or whatever the natively supported java app package is called) then it would just have to be copied to the phone and clicked on from browser.

Speaking of that browser, does anybody have a mod that changes the browser root and/or allows you to browse hidden files and directories?

You cannot install .mtf files because it is not a natively supported format by the phone.

Like .sis on symian you can use .mpkg .jar files to install apps.

For .mtf files which are usually themes u need to download the theme installer which if you can search for in this site.

    Try Downloads >> E680i/A780 >> Applications section.
