i don“t know more about .pkg.
point me to a program, and i will try.
Agree that there's no complete tutorial for A780 yet. I saw one for E680i and it seems very informative. Newbies like us would just have to read thru all the threads and see which is relevant. So far my A780 can install mpkg and jar files without any problems, but I can't install pkg and I don't know why. Guess I have further 'digging' to do around here cos there's no clear-cut answer on a platter.

I get the error message: "Error the software you are trying to run is not a Java Midlet... etc etc etc.Originally Posted by eakrin

hi guys
i have a A780 phone (boot image showw China Mobile so i guest it have the asia firmware), it supports mpkg files fully.
after that, i bought on Ebay another A780 phone from USA, this phone have the IM program, but without the Copilot, i guest it have the European firmware, and certainly it did'nt support mpkg files.
when i use the new phone, if tap on any mpkg file, nothing happens. But when i tap & hold the file, there's a pull-down menu, like my old phone, then i tap on "Install" it did'nt do anything.
someone tell my why, and plz show me step by step what can i do to install mpkg files like with my old phone?
tks & rgds.
hi,
the reason is because a flexbit is different in these firmwares.
There is a ezx_flexbit.cfg file in your cg36 (setup/mtd6).
To enable mpkg installer you need to set the flexbit 0xA2 to 1 and flash with the flashkit.

Another way without flashing is described here:

Keep your eyes open all info is available in this forum...
Now its time for study a little when you have further questions your welcome.

the magic i used years ago
first install LinLoader:

then mpkginstaller:

Extract the file mpkg.rar.
Copy mpkg.lin and mpkg.mpkg to your phone.
Tap on mpkg.lin to install mpkginstaller.
