A780 GPS in US?

I'm new to the forum. I tried looking through the A780 forum, but can't find a clear answer.
Does every A780 have GPS hardware built in?
The GPS software that comes with it useless in US?

No. Some has a radio reciever, so you can TCM messages recieve.

What do you mean "you can TCM messages recieve".
I read up and it's the European versions that come with GPS, not the Asian ones from what I understand.

Traffic Command Message!? means that messages send to your mobile with traffic infos, from a radio station!!?? I think, but I don´t know.

Anyone know if Copilot maps are available for the US? If not, is there any other SW making use of the GPS?
I'm thinking of selling my Asian A780 and buying a European version so that I can have GPS and ActiveSync for corporate email exchange server. Is there any downside to a European phone vs an Asian phone?

As far as I know there are no US maps available for the Copilot A780. www.alk.eu.com is the website of ALK. There is a US map upgrade link in the website since ages now, but it never got anythink in the upgrade page. Only a license for using all the euro maps. I already tried to upload the US maps of Copilot 5 , but didn't work. Maybe copilot 6 maps will do, but first I need a copy of them
About ActiveSync, i heard that is tooo buggy, duno if anyone got it working, I don't use it.

US and Canada maps are now available for European A780 phones with CoPilot installed. You will not find this information on the ALK website. Call their US toll free number 888-872-8768, and then press 1 to get Sales. Ask for North America maps for the A780 and they will sell them over the phone. The cost is $99.00 for US and $49.00 for Canada, plus shipping.

They will ask if you have an European A780 and if you have a US mailing address so I am presuming that they only ship these maps to a US address at this time. Perhaps ALK in Europe will ship to European addresses if you call them and ask. You also need to have your original CoPilot CD to install the maps.

I m still unsure thit it works. I think is not possible without prior changes to the copilot in the A780. the problem is, you cannot choose USA as your region, only european countries.
But maybe they provide a licence file or a serial number which adds the USA in liste of countres you can choose.

damn 100 bux ouch.. phone already cost me 400 then like around 50 for memory card now another 100 for some maps...
