    Default Driver installation

Does anyone know why everytime I connect the A780 to my Windows XP Pro computer, the *&%^&* drivers &*%&* have to be reinstalled (including XP creating restore points everytime)?

Why can't the drivers be properly installed once?

Maybe it's because every time you connect your phone to a different USB port?

No, I have connected my phone a lot more times than I have USB ports. Besides, that would be the most stupid USB implementation possible (well, we are talking Windows, so everything is possible...).

At least your reply implies that my situation is not what everybody else is experiencing.

    Any more ideas?

Not sure, but your problem might indeed be caused by a well-known WinXP "feature" regarding USB.

When you first connect a device to XP, the system associates a drive letter (like A: for floppy disc, and C: for the system disc). Once a letter has been associated it cannot be re-used without modifying the registry. In order to refresh the registry, one way is to install the drivers anew. Not even that does always work, so you situation is not the worst among XP users... May the penguin be with you!

Drive letters are the same every time. When I am logged in as regular user I can not install the driver. Access to phone and card storage is no problem (I get two drives representing these). Without installing the drivers it is not possible to synchronise.

When I am logged in as administrator, the drivers can be installed, and I can synchronise. Problem is just that every time I connect the phone the driver has to be reïnstalled. Drive letters assigned to the phone and card storage are the same every time (and the same as with normal user login).

Marecki means that you change every time you put the usb device in, into another port. You should try to use the same USB port on each time you put your device in.
