Default SyncML OTA Setup on a german A780

    Hallo *,

i follow the guides to instal linloader and leoppp an it works with Böuetooth and USB. My Problem now is that i cant set a Connection Profile to sync the A780 with SyncML and Kontakt. The Problem seems to me that in the A780 Settings (in german Menu "Datennetz") its not possible to set a noGPRS or noWAP connection. What did i wrong? Any Ideas? Im asking because i find this way of syncing in a Howto in www.troodon.org/a780/a780-linux-howto.htm
and Iam Feeling i allmost got it...

    BTW My Firmware
    R52_G_0D.74.A2R
    BP:R52_G_0D.C0B1P
    BPFlex: GCOA780000E1025

    No one?
    Suggestions
What have i done to get here.

    Install Linloader.
The Howto is not exactly right because there is no PlugCardDB File its:
    .preload/Preload/JavaDB
In this File the right entry for Directory is
    Directory=../../../../diska/.system/QTDownLoad/Loader

Installing Leoppp was easy just follow the Howto

    after that

    On A780
    Setting up USB Connection
    starting USBPPP (from Leoppp)
    starting acmattach.lin
    On my Desktop
dmesg (looking for cdc_acm line including ttyACM0 notice)
    pppd /dev/ttyACM0 noauth local

From now on i was able to ping 192.168.1.2 (A780 in USB Modus by LEOPPP, in a Bluetooth connection its 192.168.1.3 for the Desktop and 192.168.1.4 the A780)

    Sync will not work while
the sync button on the A780 brings: "OTA-Setup nicht vollständig" its something like "the OTA Setup is not complete". I thing it is still not the right Data connection type and i still dont know how to change this.

    UPDATE
    I found this http://www.motorolafans.com/index.ph...ewtopic&t=1577
So i will try it and write how it works for newbies like me. Maybe i should do it in german because my english seems so bad that no one understand/answers my question?!

I have the same problem of setting my OTA to working. I have followed all procedures suggested in "http://www.troodon.org/a780/a780-linux-howto.htm". Everything works fine,

I can telnet my A780 over bluetooth without problem. However, I have no way to my OTA sync working with multisync-0.82. I used tcpdump -i pppo on my host computer, but I didn't any packets getting across from my Phone. and I just got the error message "the OTA Setup is not complete" on the phone when I clicked OTA button.

If there is anyone who can help on this. Thank for all of guys's advice and help for getting up my A780.

    Stephen

from what I readed the A780 insists to send all the info throught GPRS no matter how you set the config up.
To solve this, you have to use the Mack connectivity pack, wich will force to switch data transfer from GPRS to Bluetooth. I'm not sure wether the USB is possible, altought I thing it should be, but the Mack pack comes with a script that only refers only to BT, and I dont figure how to moka another one to do the same trough USB.
So, you should configure a new data connection with IP addreses equal to the ppp link you make with leoppp (I just tried therefore ppp through BT...), stablish the ppp link, activate the Mack GPRS troght BT, and sync.

From what I readed, to sync with kontact you should star a GNOME session and sync with multisync, which has syncml support, but I dont use GNOME....so I cant try.
KDE 4 will have the opensync sync engine same has GNOME's multisync...but since there I can only use the java SyncML funambol program to sync, but really really ugly.

mack's pack works over both usb and bt - might just need to tweak configs for usb0/bnep0 so that gprs0 pkts get routed there.

For BT, better use PAN (rpconnect's bluezx) rather than ppp

I've never experimented with syncML so no comments there!

I supposed it should do..now you confirmed it, but I neither don't know exactly what are the changes to add/modify on the existing script to make it route GPRS to USB, nor have I found a shared script to do that on the related threads.
I should reread the whole bluez thread for PAN....I thought this wast just a BT PPP for WindowsXP app...

How can I check on the A780 if the gprs routing over BT is active?

    Hi all,
if anybody should still need this info (the top post was nearly 2 yrs ago ), there is a very good german HOWTO for setting up multisync here:

    http://www.setius.net/a780_syncml.html

It can be a bit cumbersome to provide all the correct libraries, but I got it up & running on Ubuntu 7.10 without *too* much trouble.

There was however one small dirty detail:
I also got "The OTA setup is not complete" on the phone and tried a lot of things, till I noticed that I had overlooked something in the HOWTO:

You actually have to enter the strings "contacts", "events" and "todo" (in that order) on the respective empty lines under the 3 checkboxes in the OTA setup screen!
Otherwise you will get the aforementioned error message.

Make sure to type them in exactly like that (no funny business with capitalization etc) or otherwise the sync might not work correctly later.
