mpt no work no more??

i had MPT installed once on a win2000 box last year..
or maybe even 2 years ago
one day MPT said there was an update and i let it update itself.
since then MPT failed to recognize my a780.

since i never used it much anyway i forgot all about MPT.

anyway, now i want to reinstall it on a vista pc but i can only still find my 2 co-pilot cdees and a an smelly bag of potato chips...
so i decided to download MPT v4.something from some obscure corner of the internets.

when starting the installation, MPT found the right language on start up and all installed well and when i ran MPT for the first time it said: found newer version, do you want to update.

alas.. i clicked yes...
after updating (in admin mode) and clicking numerous vista warnings about unsigned drivers all seemed well and MPT asked me to connect the phone.

then i started detecting but came up everytime with nothing....

then it gave me the option to manually select the phone but all i got was some generic options and on the second field it asked with port or bus or whatever to choose but the options all came up emtpy no matter what option i checked...

i allready read about tons of peepz having trouble with MPT but.. oh well.. maybe someone here has a enlightened moment...

Mine works without a hitch might be because I'm still using XP.
It was updated last night to 5.0.7a.
Had problems before in using backup and sync. I thought it was just because of the Security pin I set to lock the phone after a minute. I also deleted the groups at the contacts and the owner information, only then did my last version took a backup of my phone.
That was a year ago.

Now I can backup even if my phone was already locked after a minute and I have the groups and my owner information in the phone. I have backed up and synchronized my phone.

Now I'm just curious on how I could use the phone software update feature of the MPT since it does not have a listing of my phone model (I checked the locations [in no specific order] Philippines, Vietnam, Hongkong, and Singapore ).

Anyone who has an idea on how I could use it with the latest asian firmware floating around the forums.
