hi to finland,
ä, ö, å and ü are available and much more.
i dont know how much versions are available but in the german version
is english included
I'm thinking of buying a A780 and there are some questions I couldn't find answers to. I think some of these questions are answered somewhere else but I couldn't find clear answer for all of these. And it would be great if someone could build a faq for those who are thinking of buying this phone. So here it goes:
I live in finland so I really need support for "letters with dots" like ä, ö, å and ü. So the question is: does the german version have these in the onscreen keyboard?
What versions even are available? Chinese and german? What about languages? They all include English, right?
If I buy the phone from UK is it which version?
Or where should I buy this? Can you suggest some good e-stores in EU?
I've also read about some problems with the guarantee.
As far as I've read about this phone I've got the impression that normal linux programs won't work on a780. Is this true? Is it possible to compile *nix programs to a780 without any tweaking? Are the programs cross compiled on pc or in the phone or both?
Thanks in advance

I believe all of the A780 versions have English. And I think they all support the extended characters as well. But some versions, like the Chinese ones, have the Pinyin keyboard along with the English one, so I'm guessing the German version would have a German keyboard.Originally Posted by blobster
The warranty is only an issue if the phone has not been officially released for use in that country by Motorola. For example, the US.I've also read about some problems with the guarantee.

No native linux application support, but check out the Opie development threads.
Hello mates!
I've been thinking in buying an A780 here in spain.
I would like to have a deeper knowledge of the phone itself
Personally like the phone because of being PDA/phone, having a integrated GPS and of course, being linux based
I will use the phone for developement also.
I will appreciatte your point of view about the following points:
a) What other languages/platforms are availiable to develop a780 apps? C/C++? phyton.. perl... mono?
b) what about the gps maps? Here in spain they sell the phone with europe maps, but it would be nice to know if it is possible to update the maps or download/install new ones
c) Quality of the phone itself.
thank-you![]()
