FW - GPRS vs. EDGE / Flexbits / Links & Wiki

Hi all!

1) Originally I intended to upgrade from R52_G_0D.74.A2R to the newest .76 firmware available in the download section, but swifty told me (thanks, BTW!) that the improvements are small. Somewhere else someone stated that the .76 is not as stable as .74 and - after all - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

But to be on the safe side, I'd like to have a version of my FW
AP: R52_G_0D.74.A2R
BP: R52_G_0D.C0.B1P
BP Flex: GCOA780000E1025
DSP: 62373700
in case something goes wrong and I have to re-flash my phone.
Unfortunately, all links I found in the forums so far (mainly pointing to rapidshare) are not valid any more - does anyone have this FW version?

2) If not, is it possible to get the complete FW from the phone itself? When I copy the flash (e.g. following the steps for modifying the flex bits), is this a complete backup of the FW?

3) I just read a post where someone upgraded his FW and the G(PRS) symbol (in the top status line) changed to E(DGE). Do I see this even if I do not have a provider supporting EDGE (my phone only displays G), i.e. does this depend on the FW or the HW or will I only be seeing the E after changing to an EDGE-provider?

4) Talking of flex bits - I found a post where the meaning of the bits is described, alas very short, mostly only abbreviations which are not all known to me (the post concentrates on the technique to modify them). Could someone elaborate on the meaning of the various flex bits?

5) Most links inside the forums pointing to older entries are broken, because the URL-format seems to have changed. I remedy this by changing the URL by hand, which works most of the time (at least when the post is still there under the same ID).
Alas, there are links to a certain WIKI which are broken as well (e.g. http://www.motorolafans.com/index.ph...=motorola_a780), but I did not find these pages otherwise. Is the WIKI still there somewhere?
BTW, just displaying the homepage when some link is not found can be confusing sometimes

yes! http://wiki.openezx.org/Backups but it will not allow to re-flash the phone using standard flash tools.

i think so. (but not for sure)

It is really not very satisfying that when seraching the forums I will often find links to other posts using the old URL scheme, e.g.
http://www.motorolafans.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1521
Sometimes these will not work.
Some of them are thankfully rewritten automatically, e.g. for the above example:
http://www.motorolafans.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=1391
and - if this is not the case - I can sometimes work around this by changing the URL by hand (provided the ID is still the same, which is for instance not the case in the above example!)

More cumbersome however are the broken links to the wiki, e.g.:

http://www.motorolafans.com/componen.../Motorola_A780

Has this information just vanished or has the URL scheme changed as well?

What's with the 2nd .74-version in the same location, is that a non-european one?

BTW, are there any checksums or byte-exact file size infos for these FW-files so that one can be sure that the file was downloaded completely/correctly?

goto openezx for details on the different firmwares.

you can be sure that the file was complete when the flashing process has successfully finished
