Thread: Help on Broken key pad

Default Help on Broken key pad

The instruction pages in taking the A780 apart, the one from a chinese forum, has lost the pictures in the how to. So I had to disassemble it without any guide. So far it still works.

I had to open the phone because the left part of the key pad is not working the answer button, 1, 4, 7 and * is not working I had it checked at the local repair shops since those are in abundance here in the Philippines, but none of them seems to have the part needed to repair the phone. I had it checked at a Motorola service center but they said that they don't have the parts needed. They said I should go to another service center but I don't seem to remember the name. But all the same they said they needed to exchange the flex cable.

I was thinking maybe I could change it myself. I found some posted in ebay it ships internationally. But should it be soldered or is it just plugged and unplugged. I tried to remove it but it feels that it is soldered to the board. Is it soldered? Where can I find a trustworthy spare part?

While I'm at it how do you remove the battery is there such a tool to remove the small battery inside? And would it help the resetting of the clock every time the battery is removed? So I wouldn't have to rush to set it when it starts again because the sms will not be in chronological order because the sms received will be dated 2000 at the start.

    Thank you!

ah, yes links are changing sometimes

    the disassembly page:
    http://it.com.cn/f/mobile/0410/22/38138.htm

    the flex cable:
    http://cnn.cn/shop/motorola-a780-flex-cable-p-843.html
an again yes, you have to solder.
the speaker in the keypad is soldered.
the connectors are not solderd, only pluged.

    for the battery:
mine is empty too. i have not changed, because if the main battery is loaded, there is no problem. the time and data will stay ok.
and for the time/date setting is somwhere a nice thingie made by epinter called clocksync.

Wow, Swifty - does that flex cable work for GPS enabled A780s too?

And can you clarify about soldering? Am I right in thinking the bit we have to solder is the speaker and NOT the tiny connections for the keypad and anything else?

Wow, looks like I could have my GPS and keypad backlight back! Wohoo.

    Smile you're so helpful swifty

    Thank you

I am considering a seller at ebay china_store don't know of the quality of the items they are selling but the seller said he would give me two flex cables and a case... which i think are class a replacement parts for us$38.87

    1.99 @ cable
    12.89 for the case
10 dollars for the shipping of the first item and an additional 6 dollars for the succeeding if shipped all at once.

    Swifty,

    thank you

I apologize for my late appreciation of your help I was so occupied the last few months. I got into reading the hotrod x-fi thing at head-fi, which I spent my vacation on. which let me forget about my phone
