Default How to Auto Start a Script on phone start

    Hello there,
just wondering if someone knows this. is there a way to auto start a script as soon as a phone starts.. some kind of settings in the installedDB or something ?

Also, if someone knows what a default linux command is to restart the phone or turn it off.. ?

    thanks alot

hmm i read online and if the script is put into /etc/rc.d/init.d directory and with some chkconfig we can set up the run level of the script... this way it can started on boot up.. but i guess moving files to /etc/rc.d/init.d is not allowed

anyway to tackle that.. to move files to the *non-writable* directories...?

    thanks,

you might want to check w/ silvio; in the modified cg33 for the initial e680i firmware release he had done somehing in /etc/rc.d/init.d such that when the phone boots it runs startup.txt off of the SD card. do you have access to similar firmware files for the 780?

    Thanks for replying,
well it means its possible then.. thats a good news. which posts does he talk about if u can tell me specifically. are you saying firmware files of A780 as in kernel source code. I think kernel Source code is available but does that require re-flashing the firmware or something or can be done on the existing one ?

i wouldnt want to remove the Firmware and install again...but do let me know the post..

    thanks

the thread where silvio describes the added files to the rootfs (for the e680i firmware) can be found here: http://www.www.motorolafans.com/inde...=rc.d&start=15

you shouldn't need the kernel sources but i think to make changes similar to silvio you will need to re-flash (as you said, moving files to /etc/rc.d/init.d is not allowed)

also you had asked about restarting the phone, have you tried the reboot command? (I have found its a lot faster to restart the phone w/ reboot than using the power key)

don't ever use CG33 for E680 on A780 as this could disable most of A780 functions or even phone wouldn't start. but afaik we don't have modified one for A780 yet.
this job has position set in my plans (after firmware flash linux utility) but for now i'm too busy during weekends.

i hope i was not misunderstood when making the suggestion above and i certainly agree that you should not try to use cgXX files from e680i firmware in other models, i was just hoping to provde some info on how the problem was handeled on the e680i. best of luck w/ any firmware mods for the 780!

Has there been any progress made on this request? I would really love to have the ability to use startup scripts on the A780 like the E680.
