Default questions about firmware for a non-gps a780, firmware 50

I recently purchased my a780 and love it. However there are a couple of things...

It doesn't have the motosync software on it to sync ota to exchange.

Also, I think it came from China, and it doesn't have gps.

I looked at my firmware and it's on 50.

Since I have a strange phone hardware version (non gps), am I able to upgrade the firmware to 74, or would it brick my phone? And if so, would that give me motosync?

Please help, any help will be greatly appreciated.

-Mike

Yes, I have non-gps a780 from HK too. I upgraded it to 74 as I was sick of that red branded stuff and it works okay. Just follow the steps described in other forum threads and save your files/contacts from the phone before flashing.

Thanks for the reply!

Also, another thing I need help with is I can't seem to figure out PST or RSD lite to be able to flash the firmware. I know there are threads out there that give instructions on this, but I can't seem to find them. If someone could point me in the direction of the threads that give instructions on upgrading your phone...

Also here's my firmware info:

R53_G_0D.50.AHP
BP: R52_G_0d.CO.B1P
BPFlex: GSOA780T674KF064
DSP: 62373700

Any suggestions?

Thank you so much swifty, that really cleared things up for me. I've followed all the instructions, but cannot get PST to recognize the phone. When I first plug in the phone, and I choose driver installation, the instructions say that many drivers should install. I only get one popup... usb modem. I tell it to look in the PST directory as instructed.

I've tried it at first on a computer with motorola phone tools installed, then I moved to a fresh computer and repeated the same steps.

Still nothing. Any thoughts?

BTW: thank you guys for helping me, I absolutely love this forum.

Yes, my usb mode was set to modem.

I tried manually reloading the drivers several times too, still nothing

Thank everyone who helped. I finally flashed the firmware to 76. It's a bit buggy though, and I may be trying out 74 if I'm not satisfied with this.

Also, as in my original question, motosync with exchange support is not included in the firmware I used. Can someone point me in the direction of a .74 with exchange OTA synchronization abilities?

Thanks
