Should i buy it?

I search a new phone for some time.

I am no Unix specialist but i work in computer programming.

The A780 meets my requirements but it seems that neither much Java nor much unix applications (some work with "crack") are available for this phone.

Do you think that there will be more software support avilable in the next time?

Okay... so which phone are you talking about? the A768i or the A780? The A768i wasn't really popular because of its horrible specs, so there is virtually none hacking done for that phone BUT there's a complete ezx-sdk for it available, and since you're a programmer you could make your own applications for it that way. The A780 on the other has much more of a hacking scene but there's no sdk for it available. Both phones will run (almost) all java apps, only some will not work because the A780 and A768i have no 'normal' keypads.

it depends on how easy you want it to be to download apps. there seem to be lots of j2me apps and games, and unix applications are slowly being developed to wok on the motorola linux phones (for example see the "Development" thread and the stuff on OPIE) but it is still mostly in an experimental phase.

i have no experience w/ other phones (e.g. ms or symbian machines), but as a linux tinkerer i absolutely love these phones.
