Unhappy Crippled Software

I recently purchased a "new" A1600 off of Ebay. The phone is genuine and works fine, but the firmware is clearly not original. There is not a whole lot of information on this phone floating around, but some of the things I think are not original include:

- Upon powerup, before anything Motorola shows, it shows a "StyleMobile" icon
- in the phone security settings, there is a Moto_Style option with a password I do not know (I tried all the obvious ones...)
- There is no MotoNav, Business Card reader, dictionary
- The phone shows an unlocked padlock icon near my reception icon (probably meaning it is unlocked).
- It came loaded with lots of Chinese GSM/GPRS network settings

I tried to use RSD Lite v 4.1 and 4.2, and neither detected the device. I followed instructions from this forum, put it in Mass storage mode, etc etc. I tried to do Linloader/mpkg and nothing worked.

Can anyone identify what firmware is on my phone, or how I can proceed? I'd like to get the OEM firmware to start and then mod it from there. Or at least if I could get mpkg installed, I could put on some good apps.

Thanks in advance

Firstly, I d suggest you to contact the seller on ebay and give him a thrashing for providing you a phone with not the original software. You can launch a complaint on ebay against him.
Contact motorola service centre to get your phone's original firmware. I still have not checked out if the CD that came in the bundle has it or not.
If you want Motonav, I have already uploaded my Motonav folder in a thread. Please see that.

and i am sure some expert here will help you out, cos these guys are awesome.

To know your firmware this wat you do.... (Note the details quickly cos the screen will not stay for put for a long period, u ll have to dial again)

Go to your Dial Pad and dial, WWW008W. To make the W hit the menu button while in the dial pad, then hit insert->insert wait to make the W .

You should see something like:
R532H2_G_11.20.08P
BP: R532H2_G_11.20.08PPB
PFlex: GSZHNANT677JF014D
SP: 631F1F00

Look at the numbers at the end of the second line for the version. The version shown here is .08P.

I d also suggest you take a backup of your mem card and phone mem somewhere... may be later we can find something useful on ur phone, which may be absent in the original.

Default A1600

Thank you for your reply. I will have to contact Motorola - the problem is that I am in the USA, and I'm not sure they'll want to deal with me having this phone.

Anyway, I found that WWW008W trick - and it doesn't do anything. I type it in, nothing happens, and I hit send, and it says "unrecognized number". To do the W, I don't have any menu, I have to hold 0 and it eventually scrolls to W.

As for the RSD lite stuff, my phone wasn't detected. Is there another way I can backup my phone's memory? It seems this version doesn't want me to take it off. If I can get it off though I'll gladly share it with everyone - like I said - it seems wildly different than all of the other A1600 stuff I've seen.

Thanks!

Yeah... I don't have a menu on the bottom left... I have to hold 0 to scroll through +,p,w,0.

I contacted him with email multiple times, with no reply. His account no longer exists nor do any of the auctions. I filed a Paypal complaint and they say if I want my money back I have to send it back.

I've found some other A1600's online and I'm trying to verify they are real by asking some key questions. If the sellers convince me they are real, I'll buy one, and send this one back. After looking into this some more, the camera is clearly not 3mp and I doubt there is a GPS receiver in it. If it is, in fact, a fake, it is a pretty amazing one.
