to partition the sd, this card has to be recognized as "local hard disk" in windows. This way, you can use partition magic, but it's not needed.
I prefer the windows hard disk utility... (right click on "computer" then go to "manage" then use disk managment utility or something like that).
on some motorola phones, putting the USB to mass storage mode show you such a "local hard disk" device on the computer suitable for such operation.
In a card reader there is 99% of chances that you'll see "flash memory" or "memory card" "usbkey".... That will not work as we want it to.
For most of the other card readers, i believe you must use linux, and GNU Fdisk.
