Doubts about Firmware and Programs

First of all, i give u my apologies about ignorance about smartphones...

Well, i've just bought my a1200i and its on Portuguese language. And as i'm a curious kid, i was trying to understand wtf does this alien called firmware means. I understood that its like an update of the operating system of the cel phone. But...which one should i install to get my phone better...mine is a a1200i from brazil...

Another problem that i'm having...is the applicatives...most of them dont work...or work not as i thought it would be working. I really want a similar program to the MS Excell, i've found one that after some uses stoped working..it really sux..

So...

1- Which one is the best firmware to my case?

2- Where can i find a similar Excell (it doesnt need to open the genuine excell archives, but just do a similar job)?

3- I want a software that permits me handwrite on the touchscreen a note, like an address or something ...since the preinstalled in the a1200i just permit me to write with the keyboard with those impossible buttons...


If someone here knows how to help me...please reply o/

Go to dial pad and type www008w and take a look at the end of the first line,if it says 0FR you can't flash it to another firmware.

Thanks man !!!! u really helped..finally it shows 1AR in the end...is it g00d?...well...so can u tell me which one is the best firmware to my phone...remembering that my phone is locked to the CLARO (A company from brazil)...well i want the fastest firmware and one that i'm not going to have problems...and the most important...i want to run well the games !!!

Hi Shak. Read the FAQ and "Guide to Flashing your A1200" stickys at top of forum.

These have the answers to all your questions including differences between the firmwares, drawing programs, using Excel on your A1200 (no known program allows you to create/edit MS Excel files) and 101 other good bits of info.

It is a great place to start to learn what you can do on your phone!

Don't change the firmware of your phone.

If you want the best, never buy branded and locked phones !!!

As dedraks already told you, do not touch your firmware. You may break your phone. I looked all over for the MING when I wanted to buy it, and surely I would never buy a locked or branded one.

Claro has put code into it, the most used is to avoid SIMs from other vendors to work, but it may have some Bluetooth limitations, along with other modifications (most not good for the user).

Even return it and ask for your money back (if you have it for less than 30 days) and get an unlocked, not branded MING or be happy with what you have, because that is as far as you can go without risking loosing a lot of money...
