Not true. Telnet allows us to view files not seen in mass storage mode.. In specific file systems, etc..

Default Very Easy Steps For telnetting for Bint 08p firmware

    Hey Guys
I also faced a hell lot of problem in telneting ming with xp. Then I figured Out easy steps.
    1) I Flased my ming with Bint.08P firmware. It has a pre-installed USBnet.
    2) Download latest Usb drivers for motorola phones from www.motodev.com
    3) Just install fake_dsm_for A1200.zip which colviskk has mention (Note this step is requried if U and to access net on ut ming thru USBnet.)
4)Restart Ming goto setup -> USB Mode-> Select USB net.
    5) Plug ur phone to ur PC it will detect MOTOROLA Network driver and in ur network places U can see this connection.
6)Dont try to change TCP/IP property Of that network .It assigns automatically.
    7) Default IP on ur PC side would Be 192.168.16.1 and ur IP for MING would be 192.168.16.2
Now from PC run command line type PING 192.168.16.2.. U should get success.
    9) Then type telnet 192.168.16.2 and now u can login as username root.

I hope I have cleared some confusions..

    Thx!

I think my problem is the driver for the telnet modem.

I'll try the web you give me Motodev to find another driver, another chance for my phone to be telneted.

S#it almost working, but when trying to putty to 192.168.16.2 (that is the A1200) it says:

    login as: root
    Server refused our key
    root@192.168.16.2's password:

(any password I type gives me a "password error")

I made all the steps and run the scripts and copied mykey.pub (the one I created with the putty key g3nerator) to the A1200 in the same dir than the scripts...

Do you know what is happening? I am using Windows XP, I am thinking that it is a text file format problem (in linux the EOL character I remember that was different)

Do you know if I can change the root user password (I know that is its blank originaly)

    Thank you,

    S.

PD: this tiny little MING is really amazing

The format of the file is different from the one created by puttygen.exe. you need to strip all new lines off (put the key in just 1 line - and it has to be the poublic key). You need also to put the prefix and sufix (take the attached mypub.key as an example).
I use Metapad to edit the file (there is a setup window where you can select the file format - windows/linux/Mac).

    Question Telnet

So I've used the little program you provided and I'm able to ping the phone.
The thing is that when I telnet to the phone it just displays the following:

    MontaVista(R) Linux(R) Consumer Electronics Edition 3.1
    Linux/armv5tel 2.4.20_mvlcee31-mainstone_pxa27x

and that's it. No request to login, no nothing.

I tried with Putty and it displays that and then it says "Connection closed by remote host"

Can you help me with that???
    Thanks in advance!
