I also have the same problem.... Someone Please help....
Thanks in advance...
My A1200 is acting wierd and want to do a master reset (may do a firmware upgrade too).
I want to back-up the contact informations as I have more number than my SIM card can handle.
I installed the MPT, updated to the latest version but phone does not connect to PC.
(I did not register, hope this is not the problem)
I have switched to Modem under setup.
When I start MPT and connect the phone, motorola usb modem driver gets installed.
And then MPT gives me the following message on a pop-up window when I try to connect.
"Motorola Phone Tools has not detected your mobile phone"
Then it asks whether I want to try to update it, I say yes, MPT tells me it is up to date.
I tried to add the phone manually, I tiried all of Ming, MingBT, A1200, A1200BT, and only once I had the option to choose MingUSB.
Never worked.
MPT says "initializing...Please wait..." forever.
Then just below the reception icon on MPT it shows either "communication port unavailable", or "mobile not connected".
MPT still says "initializing...Please wait..."
What can I do?
I tried uninstall, reinstall, turn the phone off and on while it is connect via cable, took the battery out... etc. as other posts have advised but no luck.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to register to use MPT features?
Is there some other program that I can use to back-up the contact information?
I definitely need some help.
Thanks.

Same problem. figured it out. Found this....
[quote="Broken"]Finally got mine to sync.... I noticed that Auto Launch wasn't checked under Modem in the application launcher tab. Checked it and it now connects. Can finally connect with MPT.
