Dear Sunil and Sachinum. I am Ming user and all this settings are for ming only.
Another point. ISP's do not send softwares for GPRS. They only send Connect Scripts (also called DATA Profiles or Settings), which is just in the form of TEXT SMS and gets saved in your mobile in DATA SETUP area. It contains APN, username, password, IP and Proxy Port, etc. Which you can do on your own if you know the details of ISP's GPRS Profile.

Airtel India (Mobile Office) GPRS Settings for MotoMing A1200
This is to be done in following steps. These settings are common all over India and works for all PDA models. With little brain inside your skull =)) you can easily setup for O2 / Blackberry or other PDAs.
Step 1)
First Activate "Mobile Office" service by calling 121 (tollfree) from your Airtel India phone. As Airtel is not fully automated, their technicians will do this activation manually in serial order of request tickets, therefore it may take 24 to 48 hours for actual browsing. You must switch-OFF and switch-ON the mobile before first browsing for settings in mobile to be refreshed.
Check GPRS Tarriff at Airtel Website/Gallery/HelpDesk.
Step 2)
Settings in Motorola A1200 (MotoMing)
Setting up Data Settings (Network Link) Settings as follows.
>> Menu

>> Click Options Icon at bottom-left corner
>> Click New >> Profile (and Enter following settings)

Enjoy the Airtel GPRS is setup on your Motorola A1200 (MotoMing)!
Spl.Note
These settings are common for all over India as confirmed by me with Airtel Technical team. And I am putting these working settings from my own MotoMing. It works fine for both, while browsing and emailing. Now do not ask stupid questions without reading and trying.

are you getting edge speeds through just the airtel "net on phone" service, or have you activated the edge service too (if there is one in india..)? if thru nop only then please tell us how, pretty please!!
cheers

hi Rohan
The days of using GPRS in mumbai at 75-100 Kbps is over. We have more faster Edge now upto 247 KBPS as per Airtel's official website.
MOBILE OFFICE by AIRTEL: Airtel provides two type of Internet AirtelLive (Wap based, limited sites on Mobile only, with EDGE) and MOBILE OFFICE (EDGE GPRS Based full feature high speed GPRS) which can be used on any EDGE Enabled phone or/and on pcs/laptops connected with edge phone. Mobile Office is around Rs.499 per month on Postpaid SIM and Rs.15 per day for unlimited use on Prepaid SIM, mine is PREPAID. I surf at the speed of minimum 21 KByte/sec (approx 210 KBPS).
Yes with the help of our GREAT GREAT forum, I modded my MING two times successfully and three times on mobiles of of my younger brothers group here in Mumbai and all thanked me for the real real real improvement in internet speed both same in mobile and in pc when connected with usb cable. Modding never failed as all instructions are properly carried out. The speed of edge as per airtel website is 247KBps and with this modding we get minimun 210KBps (downloading 21 kbytes/sec). Its pretty fast and almost same or faster than 256 KBps cablenet. Edge was introduced in india since many years and we are using it since many years here in mumbai. Please note I dont know about other cities/areas. In almost all areas of mumbai EDGE works, provided the signal is good. And yes GPRS stops when phone rings and starts back when you end the call. Common sense. The timeslots used for GPRS is consumed by VoiceCall.
Warning: Modding (making hardware changes) of mobile phone is not for faint hearted people. Jigar ho toh hee try karnaa. It never failed while I did it at least 5 times. You dont need to be an engineer, but basics knowledge of software and hardware behaviours. Thats all.
NOW LITTLE ABOUT EDGE......
WHAT IS EDGE??
Definition - EDGE (Enhanced Data GSM Environment) is a faster version the Global System for Mobile (GSM) wireless service designed to deliver data at rates up to 384 Kbps and enable the delivery of multimedia and other broadband applications to mobile phone and computer users. The EDGE standard is built on the existing GSM standard, using the same time-division multiple access (TDMA) frame structure and existing cell arrangements. (http://searchmobilecomputing.techtar...213691,00.html)
Current version of EDGE uses 8 timeslots of 48kbps each. This means if Mobile ISP offers EDGE in all 8 timeslots it can give (8 slots x 48kbps= ) 384 kbps with current technology. But I am sure they will not give it all at once. That is why the speed is different in difference cities/states. Approxinately saying, AIRTEL in Mumbai using 5 to 6 timeslots as they say they are offering 247 kbps speed. I am excited and waiting for new version of EDGE they are already developing which can give whooping speed. Also many GMS companies are planning to use new version of WCDMA for data services, but dont know how they will launch it with GSM. Its still under developement.
Today in MUmbai and major cities, EDGE is leading, we dont know about tomorrow (3-4years) it will be the time of 3G or WIFI 8MBPS or more and we will be using WIFI handsets in every part of country. Skype Phone are already here. Later we can do VIDEOCALL anywhere in the world FREE of cost with advanced version of VoIP and much much more. Just wait...its very near.
