Default problem connecting to my PDA via bluetooth

I have just recently bought a Sony Clie PEG-TH55/E1.
It is an old model but I was hoping to connect it with A1200.
The problem is, neither the A1200 or TH55 searches each other.
Sometimes, A1200 finds TH55 but really rare occasions.
I tried my brother's phone (LG something with BT) and TH55 finds it without any problem and pairing was no problem either.
Is there any problems with BT on A1200?
I didn't do any firmware upgrades on A1200; I got the phone March 2006.
If I do a firmware upgrade, will this problem be solved?
Please shine some light on me..
    Thanks.

I'm sure you have done this but just to be certain, have you turned on bluetooth on the A1200? and have you set it as discoverable? Motorola has a nagging feature of making there phones discoverable for only 3 minutes, so if you didn't make the search during this period you have to make the phone discoverable again. Also try to look in your Clie's bluetooth settings if there is something related to being discoverable for other devices as well.

yes, I have made sure I did all of those.
However, this is not the first time I had problems with BT on A1200.
I had problems connecting to my BT headset and PC time to time but not like this.
I can't search the phone at all no matter how many times I try.
May be I'll update to the latest firmware and try again.
    Thanks for the reply.

I tried deleting all devices listed and search the phone.
    Finally succeeded!!
However, now it doesn't let me connect/pair with the phone.
I think the BT signal from A1200 is either weak or something wrong.

    Found the problem.

1.My phone does not go into discovery mode if there is anything listed in the Device list. Discovery mode only starts if the list is empty.
Is it tipical (I think not) or something wrong with mine?

    2. I think the phone must be searcheable all the time to work with my PDA.
It only connects (pairs) when it is in Discovery mode.
So, our phones (and other moto phones as well) are not searcheable all the time?
Is there a way to enable this?
    can we hack it?

If you know any way, please let me know.
    Thanks.

I told you that in my reply. Motorolas are only discoverable for 3 minutes, if you need to pair again you have to go to bluetooth settings and select discoverable, it will only last for 3 minutes.

I can add only that it is right because of discoverable mode consumes battery energy and your phone will be dead soon if it in discoverable mode always.

I don't know what the differences are between Moto and other companies but other phones can be discovered while it is not at discoverable mode (though some need to be at discoverable mode to be paired up).
I think the problem comes from that.
Although the phone and my PDA is paired up, when I try to dial numbers from the PDA (via BT), the PDA tries to search for the phone again.
Haven't found a way or what the problem is with file transfers.
May be I'm doing a wrong procedure but up to this point I think this is the main problem.
I'm gonna visit a cell phone store and try some other phones.
    I'll post the results.
If indeed the problem is the phone, I may sell it and get a compatible phone: I don't want to as I really love this phone, I don't know yet..
Thanks people, and keep posting if any one has any ideas, solutions, opinions, etc.

Motorola have implemented this silly feature in all of their phones, they only allow for 3 minutes of discoverable status, while other companies keep the phone discoverable all the time when you set it to discoverable. However, when you pair the two devices they should keep the connection all the time. I think what is going on with you is that your Clie loses the connection with the Ming for any reason (get out of range, weak signal, low battery) if this happens you need to set the discoverable status in the Ming again to connect it with the Clie. This is not the story with other companies models because they are discoverable all the time so once the devices get back in rage they can auto connect to each other.
You don't have a special problem or something, this is normal with all Motorola phones and you have to live with it as there is no solution for this matter and there won't be any.
