Why didn't you let them flash the phone for you? they might had a newer version or at least you would have known for sure that it's a clean and unmodified firmware.
I've been using the China Mobile 53p for a week now, and all of a sudden, I can't send or receive text messages. (I'm in China ... I don't believe it's the setting because when I pop in the sim card, everything gets loaded on their correctly.)
It's very peculiar. I tried a different sim card from a different carrier and it has the same problem. But, when I pop my sim cards into my old phone, everything works fine. It's not a reception issue because I can still make/receive calls and get on the internet. Very strange. I think I might back up to the generic 46p. Also, not pleased with the photo quality on the camera at 53p.
Update: I believe my phone has been infected by a virus. I can no longer add new contact entries or calendar entries, either. Also, when I send messages to my phone from other phones, the delivery receipt registers as received even though the phone never receives it.
This is annoying.
Another Update: Took it into the China Mobile store downstairs. They confirmed that it was a virus of some sort and that a reflash should fix things. (It did). Interestingly enough, I flashed back to the yan0 53p and this time the flash took about 1 minute, I guess because all the firmware was already loaded.
