Default firmwares...

My a1200 came with the generic version of the 53p firmware, should I be flashing it to a version someone sent me called yan0's 53p? Does anyone know if it'll be beneficial or worse? Supposedly it's louder? but I'm not sure if it's locked?

Thanks

Yano's version is CM branded. If yours is not, then I would suggest staying with what you have.

The gaintable mod is worth it if you're having a hard time hearing your phone, or just want your phone to be louder.

If you have the generic firmware, I would suggest trying out the gaintable mod FIRST before you flash to 53p CM.

I don't think it is possible to do any backups of the firmware yet on the A1200.

you can backup the firmware through the /dev/mtd devices. simply dd or cat them to a file. the mtd content is 1 on 1 the content of the firmware files. the only problem is that someone needs to pack them to a rsd lite capable update. you can simply replace the files rsd lite creates when you update your firmware, but it ends with a checksum error and the phone will not be rebooted. but the data is already in the phone....

Hi everyone, thanks for the advice on which version I should keep, as for the back up firmware, is there an easier way to do that what was just described above here?... I read it through twice, and haven't the slightest idea what it meant... I'd like to help if it's possible but I think it might just be beyond my abilities, sowwy

the basci idea is described here except that you don't write to the devices.

http://motorolafans.com/index.php?na...ewtopic&t=1313

the files you get from there are 1 on 1 in the firmware. but they need to be packed to a format which can be read by the rsd lite flashing tool. some people can do such things (i love to hear how), but i can't ....

the other way is to do what is described in the thread above, but i wasn't success full. the main problem is that I wasn't able to reboot the phone. not simply turn is off and on again. this doesn't to it. some pieces like the startup image are read from the memory directly(used without reboot) but the kernel is not restarted when turning off and on.

perhabs someone have find a way to really reboot it ...
