phon wont' charge when battery is REALLY empty

ok, i've had this problem before, but so far have lived with it. right now i can't coz i am on the other end of the world without the means.

here's the problem:
i always charge my phone with a usb charging cable, either plugged into my laptop or a usb wall outlet ac adapter. this always works.... unless the battery is totally empty. for some reason it won't charge then, it will only charge if you use the supplied ac charger.

is there any way around this problem? is there some way i can still charge it with a usb cable?

Wow...i just experienced this the other day, but for me it was exactly the opposite. My battery died so all night I left it on the AC charger. When I first plugged it into the charger, the phone tried to boot, but then would turn off before it completed starting up. I figured that if I just let it charge all night it would be fine. The next morning, it still was off and would not turn on. So i them tried it on my computer USB and viola, after a couple of minutes being plugged in it turned on and said Battery Charging. So I would recommend just trying another USB cable if possible and crossing your fingers.

already tried several usb cables, two different usb outlet adapters. same symptoms

update: seems to be charging now, hooked up with one of the cables to a different laptop

yes. this has been a problem since E680 days.

your phone cannot be completely uncharged to charge via USB cable

Guys for the PC, its a Microsoft OS issue the PC needs to recognise the device; if the device is fully off then the OS is unable to load the specific drivers and charge it, all Moto phone capable of USB charging react the same, so dont worry about your phones.
I have never had an issue with the mains charger, however I always use the one provided with the phone.

How long does your phone usually last on a full charged battery. Mine would only go a day and a half before I need to charge it again, and I use no more than 30 mins of talk time.

its possible. until just now i could never USB-charge when the battery was fully down.
now i just found out a way : take out the battery and put it back in again while you are hooked up to the USB >> the phone is recognized and goes into charging mode. sweet.
