Default A1200 Ming Common Questions Thread

Instead of bumping all of the threads with essentially no answers, I thought I'd see if we can get one started answering common questions about the Ming in its early incarnation.

So far there has been no reported benefits of the CM 48p firmware--but some claim that they have 46p unbranded that rectifies the VM text message problem and slightly enhances the Voice Recognition program among other minor things. Any update to this? People are paying money for this update but are very discrete as to how/whom they are receiving the update from. Some claim they had to send their phone off to receive the update. We are still awaiting the development/release of an upgrade to the 44p unbranded firmware for the community. Not really fair to pay for firmware intended to fix existing bugs and bring the phone closer to its intended form.

No promising leads of any sort of edits being done to increase volume. Has this changed?

Currently has anybody found a touch-screen based media-playing applications that is more functional than Realone Player?
Does Realone Player have a limit on the amount of media it can have in its library or is it governed by the transflash card itself?
Anyway to auto-add ALL media files to the library?

No, so far the Ming does not have 3G / EDGE capabilities.

No, you cannot do SEEM edits like you can on Moto triplet phones etc. the traditional way. This phone being new, there isn't really a reliable "map" developed at this point.

When charging the Ming--apparently it bypasses the Ring setting you have it on (ie. Vibrate) and ring / play a sound when a text message/call is received as opposed to Vibrating. Can anybody else verify this and know of a solution?

You CANNOT use a BT device to listen to the FM radio as the headphones act as the antenna and must be plugged in to receive a signal. You can, however, listen to MP3's etc. with your paired BT device. Tricky for some models. Anybody manage some crazy soldering tricks to make that work?

Anybody else manage to successfully install any useful apps without receiving error messages when attempting to launch them on the phone?

Please feel free to add, comment, and answer. Anybody with tried knowledge please answer: little speculation as possible--as we'd all appreciate it. ATM we love this phone and want the community knowledge base to grow so when we tinker, we are not alone!

I want to know what calendar programs people are using on their mings. I am used to the palm desktop and while in the office I update and make changes to my calendar on my pc then sync my phone when I leave the office. With the ming, it seems that I have to have the phone plugged into the pc just to open MPT to access the calendar which is just not practical for everyday use. What are people doing for pda efficency?

datbomb- If your Ming is in USB Mass Storage Mode, it cannot access the phone storage or transflash, so you get a built-in ring. In Modem mode this should not happen (at least that's how a 680 works)

For all motorola phones I've had, charging overiders silent/vibrate.

ha I experience same situation. My solution is the setting of incoming call notice change to "silent" It's so annoying that the phone rings in a different ring tone. I checked Chinese forum but cannot find any solution

sometime, I think Ming is a stupid phone, it's great sometime )
