    Default A1200 and Cingular

Has anyone been able to get their A1200 to work with Cingular. If so, do you need to have Xpress Mail to get your email? Do I also have to have MediaNet or Smartphone connect?

I have the a1200 for my cingular service. The email part all depend on your email server. If it support pop3, then you don't need Xpress Mail. The OS on the phone included a nice email client that would connect to a pop3 server. You do need MediaNet to get email though. Don't pay the extra money for the smartphone connect. It is the same thing. I am using the media net and I can get my yahoo email just fine.

Yeah, no need for a different email client. POP or IMAP work fine. I have my gmail account linked and its pretty flawless.

Like mentioned above, you need MediaNet to work first.

All is well with Cingular. I actually have had better reception with this phone too comparing to all the other phones Ive had.

I have my phone working with Cingular, and have MediaNet and can access the internet. However, when I try to access my Pop3 Earthlink email account, I keep getting a "Password error" message even though I know the password is correct. I can access my email by going through the browser, but I would really like to access it through the email client.

    Any ideas?

Mine were mostly set by ImportGSM as follows:

    Cingular

    GPRS Settings:
    APN: wap.cingular (lower case)
User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (All upper case)
    Password: CINGULAR1 (All upper case)
    Timeout: Off
    Primary Gateway IP Address: 66.209.11.61
    Port: 9201
    Secondary Gateway: [leave blank]
    Port: 0
    DNS server: [not checked]
    Dial in number: [blank]
    User name: [blank]
    Password: [blank]
    Baud Rate: Auto
    Line type: Modem
    Timeout: off
    DNS Server: [again not checked}

    MMS
    Profile name: cingular mms
    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
    Max Sending Size: 30k
    Network Profile: cingular

I also had to enter a local phone number to access voicemail.

Finally, I had to do something to get MediaNet to come up in the browser, but I think it was just finding the right WWW address.

Hope this helps. If you were responding because you also can't get the email client to access the Earthlink servers, my web search has suggested that Earthlink blocks access when you are accessing through Cingular. Apparantly, they demand that you access their server directly for security [maybe they can tell based on IP address], and authentication does not help. I can't get it to work. Can you?
