Default Ming Software Issues Motorola Should Fix

One of the first bugs I think Motorola should fix is OBEX file transfer.

The software for receiving files via OBEX on the Ming needs to open the destination file then receive the file being pushed into that file rather than buffer the file into RAM before asking for the destination.

This places a very low limit on the upper size of a file that can be transfered via bluetooth. Which is rather sad for a phone with such wonderful multimedia capabilities.

An easy thing for Motorola to fix.

The Ming needs a more comprehensive Data Network Setup Wizard in Setup.

In addition, the current set of software is not very tightly bundled together. It would be far easier to configure the Ming if there was a central database of Network Setting one could setup in one place.

Motorola could argue that most carriers will pre-configure these settings, but so far on all my Motorola phones whenever I've had network problems I wind up with carrier support guiding me through the various network setup options.

The Ming has a real user interface, it should take advantage of it and provide an easy user interface for network configuration.

It would also be nice if the Ming were more network capable about things like settings. Why isn't there a central server the Ming can go to and lookup email server settings? One of the coolest features on the Blackberry is that when you hook it up to email services all you usually need to do is type in your email address, it looks up the rest of the details for you.

From an Enterprise perspective it would be nice if there was an easy ability to clone settings.

I'm getting a white Ming for my wife-to-be and I'm not looking forward to the effort it will take to clone all the settings from my phone into hers. And then keep those settings stable in the coming months: "My major heart bone, I can't pick up my email and Green Tea is sending me an important email I need right away! OK dear let me SMS you the email settings again." would work much better than trying to guide her through the various places to check her configuration is correct.

Yes I know carriers can do similar things but not for email settings for sohu.com.

The other thing I'm going to get a rash from my wife-to-be over is the lack of support for the Chinese IM program, I think they call it OOQ?

For a phone targeted at the Chinese market it is surprising to me that it doesn't support the #1 chat used in China but rather only #2: MSN.

If anyone out there knows where I can find a Java IM that does OOQ I would appreciate very much learning about it.

    Where is my Google bar?

I've got a phone targeted at business people with the capability to hold up to 1GB of data and no ability to index all that data and effortlessly find stuff in it?

    Data Security.

The phone is targeted at business executives, where is the data encryption?

Sure you can use the James Bond voice print identification to lock the phone but all the bad guy needs to do is disassemble the phone and remove the microSD card to by-pass that.

In addition, where is the remote kill feature?

The phone should have a configurable phone number that when it gets an SMS from that number it will immediately process the SMS for a command such as "You were stolen, erase all data, lock yourself from user input, ignore the power button, start screaming loudly for help and keep screaming every time you are recharged."

In addition, when programmed with a security number, it should SMS its IMEI to the security number every time the SIM card is changed.

A feature I've always wanted on a cell phone is: I name this place Grocery Store, remember it.

The phone would then record the 3 cell sites in view (or use AGPS and record coordinates, depending on hardware.)

You would then be able to make to-do's and link them to named places.

Buy milk (remind me when I'm at Grocery Store).
Tell Hong attaboy on Corbis contract (remind me when I'm at work)
Don't order Mai Thai (remind me when I'm at Purple Oyster Bar)
