    Default arm-xscale cross compiler

Anyone have much experience with this? I know many have setup crossgcc for arm-xscale Linux cross compilers. Infact, crosstools comes with an arm-xscale demo. However, is there any limitation due to the fact that we dont have moto's kernel source? I know its needed to build a complete toolchain, but we DO have some source for the a768 (i think thats it) and the a780 code is 'in the mail'.

SO i guess i'm not asking any specific quesion, but just starting discussion on this topic. DOes anyone have experiece doing this? What will we need that we dont have today?

    thanks guys!

check through the development threads, there are a couple of cross-compiling toolchains which are being used for e680i/a780 development (actually the toolchains work for the e680 as well, its the ezx headers for the e680 that are missing)

search around for "leprechaun"'s toolchain (an initial one that was put together back in the summer) and more recently, the "ezx-crosstool" (an updated verion of leprechaun's setup to move to more recent compilers and help resolv a soft-float issue problem)

there are also some unofficial (hacked?) EZX SDK's around, but i'd prefer to stick to stuff that is comfortably open source.

I think the tricky part will be coming up with similar ezx headers that are compatable with the a1200 libs, but when that happens boy that will make the a1200 a kicka** device!

this is where things get really exciting....!!!

Interesting. in the mean time, I am interested in getting normal connectivity tools like telnet/sshd and netcat ported over, so EZX compatability isnt really something that concerns me yet. thanks again!

i've only used the toolchain from leprechaun and it works fine for basic stuff (busybox, xQt, etc) but i recall that it had a soft-float problem that seemed to be causing problems for ssh; if you want the latest then i'd definately suggest looking into the ezx-crosstool (don't worry about the name, this cross tool is not dependant on an ezx header stuff; the actual ezx realted stuff is part of the dev-ezx kit, also from the same developer) and certainly check out the openezx wiki - those guys are really focused on development..
