Default New A1200 user

Greetings to everyone

Recently I purchased A1200, and I'm very pleased with it. It's and excellent cell phone.

I'm a GNU/Linux developer so you can understand my reasons for choosing A1200. So far, I haven't played with software in the phone (I found out that I can't use pkg's, due to firmware).

Phone came with R541_G_11.56.11R, I plan to upgrade it to A1200E_34P_APBP_yan0 one of these days. I read a lot here on the forum, and that FW seems like the best choice. Right?

And if you have any suggestions for me regarding my new A1200, please do tell

Excellent choice, kotnik! I'm satisfied with my Ming as well. It's by far the best phone I've ever owned.. and the best-looking too! It's much more than a phone actually. People may say that you it's not a good choice to buy a Linux-phone due to its limited support in development / applications. Well, they're more or less they're wrong. I've found nearly everything that I'd ever need in applications / firmwares / tricks here in MotorolaFans.com. The apps list for the A1200 is quite large!

About the firmware, I'm not familiar with the particular firmware you want to flash your phone with, because I've flashed to another that suits my personal needs. Take my advice though. Read the flashing guide really really well and charge your battery before flashing. You might want to check if the new firmware is autorun-enabled, can run PKG apps, can run multiple Java apps, good battery life and call signal, pretty fast response. Nearly everything else can be adjusted with apps!

P.S. I'm Greek, you got my attention because my brother took his first year in Medical Science at a university there, in Novi Sad. Great city! Take care

Thanks for the info, Intermario! It's much appreciated

But, would you suggest the FW you're using for your A1200 (R541_G_11.52.12R_F4)? What I want to do, is the same as you: autorun and PKGs. I'll read some more, to check out if that FW is compatible with my A1200.

As for Novi Sad, you know that people call it Small Athens Glad you like it, next time you're around, we can grab a beer at the fortress

Yeah, I'm too still looking around this Montavista thing

First, I'm gonna flash my FW, so I can provide easy access to the phone, then I'll see what I need to develop.

My job, among other things, is developing custom GNU/Linux applications. I'm mainly doing GTK, but Qt isn't too hard to understand and work with.

But now, I have to focus on which FW to use (as I understand, there is a big difference among them). I hope, I'll pick up the right one

Well. Put the flash on your phone and after we can comunicate about the advantages of the fw. Montavista is Linux Kernel based and I supposed that we can do things like other Linux SO based version.

I'll hope for your comments and if u will decide we can start a project to develop usefulls applications for our phones or others.

Sure

I'll be here on the forum, and will probably find some time during this week to flash the phone.
