So, Can this phone support such speed. I know a lot of this depends on the network support. But, I couldn't find anywhere on the manual or spec of this phone saying EDGE, EDGE being the most fastest mode of transport available today in the market.

Anyone's advice on this subject will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton in advance.
enabling edge is pretty simple by way of a seem edit, i've noticed a pretty big difference in speed once edge was enabled and i surf the web QUITE alot with my ming pretty easy

Just FYI, I know some people have been having troubles checking out youtube on their MINGs. I tried and had the same troubles. Not sure if it was ever determined to be a network/carrier issue with ports, or something with the app version on the MING. You may want to poke around the threads a bit more if youtube is a determining factor for you.

I also did enable Edge on my Ming (it's not a default feature and must be activated via a seem edit/script) and notice some improvement...I'm not sure on the overall improvement though because I hardly ever use the internet on my phone.

My provider is Cingular/AT&T.

Default a1200 or a1200e

Hello everybody!

I'm actualy in Hong-Kong for my studies (I'm a french exchange student) and I plan to buy the motorola a1200 since I've seen it for the first time in the plane from Paris .

But I hesitate because in Hong-Kong I only found the a1200 (in my prices) and I want the a1200 with edge technology.

So if I buy the simply a1200 and I change the firmware, could it become the "a1200e with edge" or is it a little bit more complicated? Can you explain me?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot.

So if I understnd the message, it's easy to install EDGE technology (thanks to RADIOCOMM, chapter J) even if I buy a A1200 and not a A1200E...

That's fine I'm decided, I will buy, flash and install EDGE

Thanks a see you on this very active forum.

Enabling EDGE is pretty simple, if you are savvy with the computer. Even not-so-savvy kids can get it done with a little help.

We're all here to help, so if you run into issues, dont be shy about asking. The guides are AWESOME (thanks Kiwi and Alpha!) and the Ming is not a terribly difficult phone to work with (thanks LINUX!!!).

All you will need to get EDGE going is RadioComm and a little EDGE tcs that is available here on the forums.

Good luck! You wont regret your purchase!

Definately read the STICKY'S b4 you start FLASHING away, it's NOT really the answer to every problem (although it seems to be suggested for everything but turning your phone on/off, and for the edge mod you dont need to do it anyway), heres a link to the sticky that deals with it (detailed instructions) check out section J

Great advice. I hate to say it, but I bought off eBay with no knowledge of this site beforehand, and I slightly regretted it. Having to download mods to fix the volume, etc could have been prevented. But all in all, I am glad because I am getting adept at customizing the phone way more than I ever thought it could be.

Default Received my ming yesterday and the manufacturer warranty is about to expire

Hi motofans,

I just bought my phone and have battery problems. I have charged this phone 4 times since 10PM last night. Furthermore, troubleshooting the battery issue led me to discover from using msandiej's advise that I virtually have no manufacturer's warranty.
"Your phone is In Warranty and is valid until 12-29-2007" is what I got when I entered my imei # into the link https://repair.motorola.com/repair/j...logUPDWarr.jsp

I want to return the phone to the seller (cellhut.com).

Motoguru's please advice me on want to do. Am I over-reacting?
Thanks.

Here is a VERY good way to check the authenticity of your Ming...

Go to motorola.com and use the warranty system. You type in the IMEI and it will return the manufacturer warranty info for that phone. It WILL tell you if the IMEI is a valid Motorola IMEI.
