to get it to work for the first time, u'll have to search for the location..
so you still need a GPRS connection to get this up n running.
it'll just retrieve the location (ie. the latitude and the longitude of the place)
the data ttraffic will be just 1-2 kb's

hope this helps

Default How to Locate The chache folder for maps

Hello ,
I have downloaded the maps using gMapMaker, a tool by Damien Debin can now download map tiles in a format supported by MGMaps. You can get latest version 0.5 from http://www.mgmaps.com/gMapMaker-setup.exe,
Its around 9MB with 12 zoom level. MGMapsCache folders contain 34 folders of google having files in it.

I have loaded the jad file (unsigned vesion) and able to run the application .
But It says No tiles available

In setting I have given the Map Browsing as /mmc/mmca1/MGMapsCache path for maps (offline and stored maps options checked in settings)

Please help me.. I will post screen shots with problem ...

I am on to 59XPV2 firmware

I'm new to the program and don't have ti completely working either but from what I can see, there may be a few issues. For one, newer versions of the mgmaps program don't include google maps as a format so that may be an issue as the gmapmaker only works on google maps.

Secondly, from reading on this forum, someone said that instead of typing the root folder and then the folder where you have your maps as the path, you instead use the name of your SD card and then the folder name. For example, instead of mmc/mmca1/mgmapscache, if your card's name was "transflash" (like mine), you would type transflash/mgmapscache. Try that maybe. But as I said, I haven't gotten it to work yet either so I may be way off!!

I had sort of similar problem I ended up figuring it out though. Double check that the path is correct and also that you set a favorite for a location (just so you know where you are once you set it up to use offline mode)

Easiest way to make sure the path is correct is hit browse and find the folder (Click onto the part of the settings where u put the storage path) and then close the keyboard and hit the menu button and hit browse.

Make sure you've for the signed version

http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps-alpha-signed.jad

http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps-alpha-signed.jar

Hope that helps

Cheers

I found it easiest to browse to the folder where the maps are located, rather than just entering it in manually. I found that if your browse button doesn't seem to work ,then the most likely problem is that you have not set the permissions for the application.

hold the stylus on the application icon and goto manage > permissions. Don't change anything, but just click Save and that should allow the application to access your SD memory. Then go back into the app and you should be able to use the Browse button to navigate to your maps folder.

Couple questions:

-has anyone gotten the .mgm files from this program to work?
- is it ok to copy the subdirectories over to mgmapscache folder intact or does each .mgm file have to go in sd/mgmapscache/ without any subfolders?
