I finally installed 29p for A1200E...and noticed intermittent internet problems after installing the firmware (same experience as the 01p A1200E firmware from a few months ago). I started to compare "our" EDGE seemedits with the ones that came with the A1200E 29p by default and noticed some significant differences. I believe our original seem edits didn't really turn on EDGE....and the A1200E seem edits that really turn on EDGE (as shown on the A1200E firmware - see below) breaks the internet functionality (maybe hardware difference between the two) Anyone with 29p installed on a "non-A1200E" (i.e. the orig A1200)...please report if your internet is working. Meanwhile, I'll keep messing around with the seemedits and will report back on results.

Have you realized that both of these firmwares are TRI-BAND? you have to enable 850 yourself. Just like the E6

Thank you Pondo for your input, but I tried it (copied the seem line by line) and it didn't fix the internet problem for me (maybe everyone else may have better luck).

I did notice though that the only difference in 0032-001 between 29p default and your proposed 850mhz one is that yours display "FEFEFF03" vs 29p displays "FEFEFF07" toward the end of seem. Nonetheless, turning it to "03" didn't fix the internet problem either...even though "03" should have technically turned off EDGE and it still didn't fix the problem.

On the topic of 850mhz though, I did some research and these are the exact bits that "supposedly" enables QuadBand:

So in summary...the default 29p seem edits appears to already be enabled for 850mhz and QuadBand (except that 0171-001 was set up to display "tri-band")...in any case, my internet is still not working=(

Pondo - thanks for the feedback. Yes, I applied both the original EDGE seem edit and 850mhz seem edit...and still no internet.

After I apply 850mhz seem edit, do I need to turn anything on via the OS or does 850 work automatically? Also, did you get 29p to work wih EDGE and 850mhz?

At this point, there's three possibilities why this thing is not working.

1) Despite applying the 850mhz seem edits, I still didn't turn on QuadBand...yes, I know www008w tells me it's quad, but supposedly 0171-001 can modify that text, so there's no assurance from that alone.

2) Since I've already applied the original E6/A1200 EDGE seem edit and still no luck, I suspect that there must be another EDGE seemedit entry that we are not aware of. Which would explain why we havne't seen any performance difference from turning on EDGE in the older A1200 firmware.

3) The A1200 OS may be different than the A1200E OS. Or the hardware is different.

I'm using Cingular here in the US. Although internet is working intermittently...I find that Opera mini is more consistenly working than the Opera browser that comes with the OS. Anyone have a different experience? Could there be something wrong with the browser?

My provider, here uses 850 & 1900, i turned on 850 because i thought i would get better reception, still, the phone is working on the 1900 band, as it is Comcel's primary. Comcel, my provider, is the only one with EDGE in my country. I got internet working, i really like this firmware, so much in fact as to forgive the lack of spanish in the OS. Internet drops too a lot, i really thing there is a seem edit there that is messing with our internet reception, ill keep trying and posting everything i find.

Still, its kind of dissapointing the lack of attention this firmware has received by premium members like Mischka and alpha and others.

Despite the lack of interest in 29p...can someone that haven't installed 29p yet try out my proposed EDGE settings on a non-29p firmware (i.e. 24p, 30p or 59p)? I want to find out if these default A1200E EDGE seemedits will improve the network performance on our original firmwares. The proposed settings are in the first message of this thread under the heading "A1200E 29p w/ EDGE by default." I would try it myself, but I'm already running 29p and don't want to go back to other firmwares just yet.
