Yes you need startup script enabled to run this app. since it starts automatically when start your phone.

See this link,

Question aargh

ok, i'm using 25P - original - never flashed (other than a quick patch to enable PKG). I really want to try this app out!
I'm assuming startup scripts don't work on my phone (sorta did give fingerpad a try with no luck), now...is there any way to run fingerpad as an app so it runs in the background or whatever?

this looks like an interesting addition to texting..
cheers!

Default Works great on E6 - but.....

Hi

I've installed this on my E6 - .08P. Works beautifully - is a Killer app. Was able to use the key pad like a regular T9 type keypad. The keypad loaded when I tapped Compose (a new msg), or Reply to an incoming msg, or even entering a new event/reminder. Can even revert back to the original qwerty keypad by selecting the drop down list. Am able to select all small letters, InitCap or All CAPS keyboard, Also able to select English,Russian or Numeric keypad. Special characters - need to keep pressing the one symbol to scroll thru all spl chars.

However :
  • I don't have startup script set up on my E6 so I have to manually run the startup.txt every time I boot up the phone. Anyone who can make this an auto start app without having to go thru the need to go to eKonsole (or Samba) and run the startup.txt would be of great help.
  • The Meeting/Reminder message (Next Events of HomeScreen) - dissapears when the script/program is loaded. Not sure how this is related - but needs to be fixed since we are losing one functionality whilie gaining another!
  • Most important : The USB mass storage does not work (as mentioned by Ger86) - in fact the phone freezes like ice when connected to USB cable from PC (after saying switching to USB mode -which it doesn't do!). Charging when on USB mode doesn't work either. However it seems OK when connected as modem thru USB Cable.
  • Anyway great work by EUG- once above issues are fixed, it'll beat QuickSMS hollow and fulfil the long cherised dream of E6/A1200 fans to have a better keypad for messages.

OK - Please forgive me if i'm asking too much now.
I actually decided to download eKonsole now (just have never bothered about it), I've installed it and everything's working fine, now what I need is help on how to manually run FingerPad. Please remember, i've never used eKonsole or any similar app really (unless DOS is similar, but whatever), so please simply can you give me the method of running FingerPad through running the startup.txt script from eKonsole!

Thanks, your help is appreciated!

If you have startup.txt, with eKonsole, only you've to do is:
Make sure you have startup.txt in root of TF

cd /mmc/mmca1
With this you go to transflash root directory

./startup.txt
(dot slash startup.txt)

I've read it somewhere. Try it!

If i mistake, please somebody tell me!

aha... i tried just typing /mmc/mmca1/startup1.txt and then clicking the furthest right button at the bottom to the left of the commands drop down list. read something about can not find ..blah blah blah, then after a while phone does a 'reboot' or rather a refresh...then it worked.
didn't seem to work when i used the startup.txt file but rather the startup1.txt (actually i only tried once so far). thanks, gonna play around a bit more then.

ciao

edited...
ok, now it's not working, i restarted the phone and whatever, and eKonsole now doesn't do anything when i repeat what i did...tried deleting the folder/s / file/s created after running the script but still didn't help.. what now? aargh!!

edit....again...
maybe i'm just not knowing what i'm doing in eKonsole.
Got it working somehow again.
my bad.

Unhappy startup.txt or startup1.txt ?

The startup1.txt has to be run only the FIRST time ever you run the Finger pad app. This basically copies over some folders/files from the innards of E6 to your Transflash (SD Card) root and also runs the Finger pad app (fp.so). So the next time onwards (when your phone is reboooted) you only need to run the startup.txt - The startup.txt is the same as startup1.txt but only thing is the folder/files copying commands are commented out. In fact you need to delete the startup1.txt after you have run it the first time and created all the reqd folders/subfolders/files. You need to keep only the startup.txt, which (if autorun enabled) startups up the Finger App, or you need to run it manually (thru eKonsole)

Hope this clears the confusion.

I've discovered one more issue due to which I'm not very happy with this app- When the fingerapp applicaton is running- I cannot turn on Bluetooth ! It says 'turning on Bluetooth' and stays there... On the other hand, if I have Bluetooth turned on BEFORE starting up the FingerApp function (startup.txt), Bluetooth remains on.

ok, now a slight bug report (from my experience so far).
- no scroll bar, so text disappears under keypad.
- many important keys omitted: no apostrophe, double quotes, question mark, hash key (and others i'm sure)
- upcoming events on home screen not displayed
- doesn't function well in java apps..seems to create a white bar above the app window when used and often exits the app when switching to the standard keyboard.
- function seems a bit dodge in the browser (possibly in full screen or maybe when switching to standard keyboard - i'm typing this in the browser & had some hassles but didn't test extensively)
- USB Mass Storage Mode not working (haven't actually tested myself)
- Voice Recognition doesn't load

Anyways, there might be more, I'll update if i missed any,
but this app really isn't bad, it sounds terrible when reading the above but it's quite minor when actually using it...but all is worth a fix!
So hopefully this will be working as if it was part of the system!!

Its an awesome feature dude!
great work by the creator...
some things which i think were missing:
1.No newline key.
2.Some important symbols like ? , ' etc are missing
3.By default the CAPS (AB) are on, i think by default 'Ab' is a better option, in which first letter of every sentence is capital or even all small letters is fine.
4.You can have a separate pad for all the symbols (other than a dedicated key on the alphabet pad) ,this pad can be accessed in the same way as the number pad or russian pad is accessed.
5.And lastly, this pad is not activated for file renames...

please think about these changes and other good stuff....
thanks a lot for such a wonderful app.
